Background of the Study
The administration of local governments in Nigeria faces numerous challenges, especially in areas with significant geopolitical influences. Gwale Local Government Area (LGA) in Kano State is no exception, as its local governance is heavily impacted by political affiliations, ethnic dynamics, and regional interests (Musa & Suleiman, 2024). As one of the more urbanized LGAs in Kano, Gwale is prone to various geopolitical challenges, including competition for resources, political power struggles, and the influence of neighboring local governments. Additionally, the role of religious and ethnic identities in shaping political agendas often exacerbates tensions within local governance structures (Musa & Suleiman, 2024). These challenges hinder the effective administration of local governments, affecting service delivery, political stability, and community trust in governance. This study seeks to assess the extent to which geopolitical challenges influence the governance and administrative processes in Gwale LGA.

1.2 Statement of the Problem
The administration of Gwale LGA has been fraught with numerous geopolitical challenges, ranging from political interference to inter-ethnic rivalries. These factors have significantly affected the efficacy of governance, resulting in suboptimal public service delivery and diminished community engagement. The research will evaluate these challenges and propose ways to enhance the administrative effectiveness of local governments in the region.

1.3 Objectives of the Study

  • To examine the geopolitical challenges facing the administration of Gwale LGA.

  • To evaluate the impact of political and ethnic dynamics on local governance and service delivery in Gwale.

  • To suggest recommendations for overcoming these geopolitical challenges to improve governance in Gwale.

  • Geopolitical challenges significantly affect the administration and governance of Gwale LGA.

  • Ethnic and political tensions within Gwale hinder effective service delivery.

  • Addressing these geopolitical challenges will improve the administrative processes and governance in Gwale.

This study will provide insights into the unique geopolitical challenges affecting the administration of local governments in Gwale, Kano State. It will offer recommendations to local and state government policymakers on how to overcome these challenges, ensuring better governance and more efficient public service delivery in the region (Musa & Suleiman, 2024).

1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study focuses on Gwale LGA, Kano State, with specific attention to geopolitical challenges in local governance. Limitations include challenges in obtaining detailed data due to the sensitive nature of political and ethnic issues in the region.
